Recommendation from the Irish Master Farriers Association

Recommendation from the Irish master farriers association

In light of restrictions put in place by the Irish government we feel the need to give some advice/ guidance to members of the Irish Master Farriers Association.

It is our recommendation that for the next 2 weeks farriers should cease work with the exception where the welfare of an animal is seriously compromised. We are asking our members to do this for your family, friends, clients, colleagues and country as we all have a collective responsibility to stop the spread of this virus even if it’s at the detriment of our business in the short term. In these exceptional times we all need to pull together to halt covid 19 in its tracks.

Please follow our version of the traffic light system.

If you do need to attend an animal keep hygiene to the highest standards and social distancing.
We would also ask members to keep a record of what yards they have been to for contact tracing, should you or someone in a yard you’ve been to, become ill with covid 19 it is imperative that all the people that may have been exposed are contacted.
Even though you may of attended a horse on your own the virus can live on doors, gates, ropes etc.

Our Version Of The Traffic light system
❌Red DO NOT attend non crucial footcare appointments

Amber Extend footcare cycles without detriment to the welfare of the animal

✅Green Attend crucial cases where if left it would cause serious detrimental effects on the animal and it’s welfare.

You should be entitled to the emergency covid 19 payment from the government. Visit www.gov.ie for more details.
Please stay safe
